Viceminister Jaime Obreros, participated in the “Third peer learning workshop of national teams of strategies for skills” developed in Paris (France) in order to exchange ideas and assimilate the experiences of strategies implementation of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
During his speech, Obreros detailed the progress and remaining challenges of our country in this area, noting that participation in the strategy is part of the global vision that the Peruvian government has to resolve the problem of linking labor demand vocational training in order to raise productivity.
He said that Peru is developing the Country Program as a cooperative mechanism created by the OECD, to support emerging and dynamic economies in strengthening its institutional and public governance. The considered projects are priorities established by Peru.
The MTPE has assumed commitments in the implementation of the Country Program such as the Programme for International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), an OECD study examining the Vocational education and training (VET) systems to help the country to better respond to the needs of the labor market (Skills beyond school Report), identify strengths and weaknesses in order to obtain better jobs, higher growth and better quality of life (Skills Strategy Report), and detailed diagnosis of the youth labor market (Investing in Youth Report)
“The strategy is included in Country Program perspective, through whereby Peru is trying to approximate to the standards and good practices of the OECD to encourage the continuity of the growth and the sustainability in our country” remarked Obreros.
Representatives of 10 national teams met in the Workshop (Norway, Austria, Korea, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Peru, Slovenia, Italy and Mexico) that implement the Skills Strategy Project with OCDE. They exchanged knowledges on specific challenges of the skills and cutting-edge approaches to strengthen national systems of competences.
Obreros also attended the 19th Meeting of the Skills Strategy Advisory Group OECD (SSAG), organized in order to benefit participating countries through recommendations for the implementation of strategies skills at country level.
The SSAG is composed of representatives from committees across the OECD, including the Employment, Labour and Social Affairs Committee and the Economic and Development Review Committee, among others.
During his visit to Paris, the viceminister Obreros met with Gabriela Ramos, OECD Chief of Staff and Sherpa to the G20; Mark Keese, Head of Employment Analysis and Policy; and Deborah Roseveare, Head of the Skills Beyond School Division to discuss about perspectives of the strategy, which the first phase-diagnosis is nearing completion.
