Formal employment grows 0.6% in private companies of ten to more workers

The annual  variation in employment in the formal private enterprises with 10 or more workers in urban Peru was 0.6% in August, compared to the same period last year, according to the National Survey of Monthly Employment Variation (ENVME in Spanish) of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion.

According to the ENVME, executed by the Department of Socio Economic Labor Research (Disel in spanish) of the  MTPE, branches of economic activity that showed a higher incidence in the positive variation in employment were transport, storage and communications (2.1%), trade (1.9%) and services (0.7%); while presenting negative behavior were extractive industry (-1.8%) and manufacturing industry (-1.0%).

In Lima Metropolitana the positive variation in employment was 0.5% and was mainly influenced by the increase in demand for workers in the branches of economic activity of trade (2.9%), transport, storage and communications (1, 3%) and services (0.7%).

Meanwhile, in some cities of the country, recovery of annual variation in employment of 0.8% in the period is recorded.

The cities that showed higher employment positive variation were Chincha (15.2%) with branches of economic activity such as manufacturing, mining (agriculture and fisheries) and services (education, restaurants and hotels, social and community services, and electricity, gas and water).

Also, Huancavelica (11.5%), where the positive variation in employment was recorded only in the area of ​​economic activity of services (financial establishment, social and community services, electricity, gas and water, and restaurants and hotels).

The survey was conducted in formal private companies with 10 or more workers in Lima Metropolitana and 29 major cities.
