Minister Maurate met with Colombian Minister to discuss bilateral issues. :: Published 07/04/2016

During the event “Laboral Movility in the Pacific Alliance” in Bogota City, The Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Daniel Maurate Romero expressed interest to implement the Special Commission for Conflict Management before ILO in our country.

In the bilateral meeting with the Colombia’s Minister, Luis Eduardo Garzón, the Minister Maurate said that the objective of this Committee is to maintain a policy that respects union freedoms and resolves controversies.

“This stage solves differences and seeks to speed up the proceeding. Colombia is applying it already, and we would like to have a similar committee to solve conflicts in our country,” he said.

This commission would comprise representatives of employers, national trade union centers and the Government. These members must have vast knowledge of regulatory and social frameworks governing labor relations in the country.

On the other hand, Minister Maurate invited his Colombian counterpart to attend the First Meeting of the Working Group on Labor of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), set to take place in Cusco on June 29-30 this year.

The meeting is intended to approve the “CELAC Action Plan on Labor” and bolster topics on labor competency certification, professional and technical education, and the future of work and youth employment.

Employment Center praised by Pacific Alliance

It is necessary to mention that Pacific Alliance member countries (Chile, Mexico and Colombia) noted the strategy of Peru to promote employment and self-employment Centro de Empleo (Employment Center), which provides vulnerable population with 12 free services.

The Employment Center gathers, physically and informatively, all employment promotion services together: employability and entrepreneurship, labor training-related services, entrepreneurship training, labor mediation, labor market information supply, among others. The aim is to create dependent and independent jobs for vulnerable populations in the country.
